The five stages of change (also known as the transtheoretical model (TTM) is the process of adopting healthy behaviors. These stages are:

  1. Precontemplation (no intention to change)
  2. Contemplation (intending to change soon)
  3. Preparation (making small, initial changes)
  4. Action (actively modifying behavior)
  5. Maintenance (sustaining the new behavior)
