Impermanence doesn’t make things less valuable. If fact it’s quite the opposite. Our lives and everything in them are borrowed and can’t be held onto forever. Instead of allowing impermanence to be a source of fear try viewing it as a source of joy. Like a free vacation.  Appreciate the ride you’re on. The objective is to become less attached or more detached. Life is fleeting so find peace with things that are out of our control.

Chronos is the forward propelling time that we measure with clocks and calendars, but time does not end there. The Greeks’ second word for time is “kairos”.  “Kairos” is what many philosophers would refer to as “deep time”.  When you find yourself in Kairos time, you completely lose track of Chronos time. A state of flow is activated, and it cannot be measured but only experienced.

If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present.

My grandfather spent the last years of his life watching TV from his recliner and died at 76. My father spent the last years of his life watching TV from his recliner and died at 79. Both men were so afraid of death that they spent their remaining years hiding from life. Look, we don’t know when our time will be up, but no one dies wishing they spent more time watching TV.
