I’m a big believer in living your life by a set of uncompromisable core values. Today I stumbled across those of our real estate agent.

  • Work hard
  • Be available and responsive, always
  • Be innovative and creative
  • Negotiate expertly
  • Be nice and have fun.

Do all these things and more, the accolades will follow. Though the true reward is in the work and the winning results.

Sometimes while watching my Son play soccer I struggle not to be critical of his performance. Why aren’t you trying harder? Why aren’t you leading by example and so on? Then it dawns on me I am parenting through the feelings of my own childhood. I must do a better job of remembering this is not my turn.

10 Rules for winning the game of confidence – Russ Harris

  1. The actions of confidence come first, the feelings of confidence come later
  2. Genuine confidence is not the absence of fear, it is a transformed relationship with fear
  3. Negative thoughts are normal. Don’t fight them, diffuse them.
  4. Self-acceptance trumps self-esteem.
  5. True success is living by your values.
  6. Hold your values lightly, but pursue them vigorously.
  7. Don’t obsess about the outcome, get passionate about the process.
  8. Don’t fight your fear. Allow it, befriend it, and channel it.
  9. Failure hurts, but if we’re willing to learn it’s a wonderful teacher.
  10. The key to peak performance is total engagement in the task.

Four steps to making a soccer move:

  1. Drive straight at the opposing player
  2. Run at 30% – 40% speed
  3. Keep the ball close to your feet
  4. Choose your distance when to make your move and be explosive upon execution. Larger opponents require more distance.
