We are living through a time of Anocracy. A political system that is neither fully democratic nor fully autocratic, but exists in a hybrid or unstable middle ground.

  • Elections may exist, but they are often manipulated or not fully free and fair.
  • Political opposition is permitted but constrained.
  • Rule of law is inconsistent; leaders may override institutions when convenient.
