The five stages of change (also known as the transtheoretical model (TTM) is the process of adopting healthy behaviors. These stages are:

  1. Precontemplation (no intention to change)
  2. Contemplation (intending to change soon)
  3. Preparation (making small, initial changes)
  4. Action (actively modifying behavior)
  5. Maintenance (sustaining the new behavior)

The secret to building a new habit is making the desired action “sticky”. It must be reasonable and repeatable for it to last. It also helps if the goal is tied to something already in your daily routine. Finally, the change must be documented so you can SEE the progress because things that get measured, get managed. – Dad

Fame is a “three-stage” slide into objecthood. First you’re treated like an object, then you may start to behave like an object, and finally you can become an object which is the “death stage” of fame. Staying grounded requires actively resisting that progression, protecting privacy, refusing to perform a persona, and not letting public projection replace a real identity. – Robert Redford
